Charleston Bible Fellowship: Church Covenant
To be affirmed by new CBF Members, and regularly reaffirmed by all CBF Members
Our God is a covenant making and covenant keeping God. As His image bearers, and trusting that by His grace we are united together through faith in Jesus Christ, we, the members of Charleston Bible Fellowship, here confess our covenant commitment to God and to one another:
We are a Word-centered community. Therefore, we will:
We are a worshiping community. Therefore, we will:
We are a working ministerial community. Therefore, we will:
We are a witnessing community. Therefore, we will:
All this we strive to do together by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. And if the Lord moves us any of us from this church family, as soon as it is possible, we will unite with some other local church where we can faithfully carry out the spirit of this covenant in faithfulness to God’s Word. (Acts 18:27-28; Romans 16:1-2; Hebrews 10:24-25)
In all this, and in all that we do, we endeavor to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 3:17)
We are a Word-centered community. Therefore, we will:
- live under the sovereign lordship of our Triune God, submitting ourselves to Him as He has revealed Himself in His Word. (1 Peter 1: 22-2:3; 2 Peter 1:19-21)
- put ourselves under the preaching of God’s Word for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16-4:2)
- strive together to let the Word of Christ dwell in us richly, teaching and admonishing one another in wisdom and love. (Colossians 3:16)
- labor together to observe all that the Lord has commanded us. (Matthew 28:20)
We are a worshiping community. Therefore, we will:
- set ourselves apart as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God, which is our spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1)
- regularly meet together for corporate worship and to encourage and stir up one another to love and good works. (Hebrews 10:24-25)
- sing to one another psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in our hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16)
- continue steadfastly in prayer for one another. (Colossians 4:2-4)
We are a working ministerial community. Therefore, we will:
- cheerfully and humbly obey and submit to our leaders who are keeping watch over our souls. (Hebrews 13:17)
- seek together to be equipped for the work of the ministry to serve one another and for the building up of the body of Christ in love. (Ephesians 4:11-16)
- give cheerfully and regularly to support the ministry of our church, to help meet the needs of one another and the poor, and to sharing the gospel around the world. (2 Corinthians 9:6-8)
We are a witnessing community. Therefore, we will:
- aspire to live in a manner worthy of the Lord, so that others may see our good works and give glory to our Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16; Colossians 1:10)
- always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks us for a reason for the hope that is in us. (1 Peter 3:15)
- work to make disciples of all the nations, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with our family and friends, and supporting the spread of the Gospel in our community and to all nations. (Matthew 28:18-20)
